Jo O'Brien
Jo O’Brien is an artist, educator, and facilitator who explores the potential of confusion as both a form of resistance and call for collaboration. Their practice includes material and social forms of art-making, research on accessible pedagogies, and community building work. They have exhibited, taught, presented, and facilitated workshops in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czechia, the Netherlands, Ireland, Italy, the U.K., and the U.S. Their work has been supported through grants and fellowships, such as a Natural Science and Engineering Council supported Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Curriculum Development Grant and a Social Science and Humanities Research Council Doctoral Fellowship. Jo is conducting their doctoral research at the University of Applied Arts Vienna under the supervision of Dr. Annette Krauss. They are also a lecturer in the Faculty of Culture and Community at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver and is a guest lecturer at the Academy of Fine Art Vienna.
